Public sector facilities represent an opportunity to demonstrate a long-term commitment to sustainability principles, and can serve as learning laboratories for alternative energy generation systems and technological integration.  At the same time, unique programmatic requirements and existing portfolio-scale operations and maintenance programs can challenge how sustainability is applied.  Although complex, the successful marriage of these components results in a legacy facility reflecting true integrated design and construction practices.
